Selma Arts Council Meetings

The Selma Arts Council meets every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm. During this time of shelter in place, we are meeting via Zoom.

Erik Andersen

Chairman

A native to Selma, Erik has been working behind the scenes on local theater productions for almost 10 years. He believes the Arts should be the core of any great community and is driven to help make that a reality. With a professional career is in business management and marketing, he hopes to utilize his years of experience to help drive the arts center and the arts in Selma.

Juan Luis Guzmán

Vice-Chairman

Juan Luis Guzmán is a lifelong resident of Selma and has been involved with theatre and community . With multiple acting and directing credits to his name, Juan has served on the Selma Arts Council as a member, chair, and vice-chair. He is committed to bringing diverse productions and events to the Selma Arts Center. Juan is a poet who earned an MFA in Creative Writing from CSU, Fresno and has published and presented his work in various literary journals . He is a professor of English and writing at Fresno City College.

Adam Chavez

Secretary

Adam Chavez is a Selma native who has been involved with the Selma Arts Center since it’s grand opening in 2013. He has directed and performed in many SAC productions over the years and has served on the arts council since 2017. Adam is a Fresno State graduate with a B.S. in Biology and works as a Value Analysis Coordinator at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia. He is thankful for the opportunity to create art with so many talented individuals across the valley and the ability to give back to his local community.

Camille Gaston

Arts Council Member

Camille Gaston is a Los Angeles native and Central Valley transplant of 16 years, currently residing in Fresno. She ended up in Fresno after completing her graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at Fresno State. For the past 12 years, she has been heavily involved in community theatre within the Valley, performing in over 40 stage productions, and sharing the stage with local performers between 10 different theatre companies, including the Selma Arts Center. The time has come for Camille to give back what has been given to her over the years. She would like to devote her time serving the performers who work tirelessly to give us great content with their amazing talents.

Frank Velasco

Arts Council Member

Frank Velasco is a woodwind musician, born and raised in Fresno, California. Receiving a B.A. in Music Education from Fresno Pacific University, Frank is currently teaching at University High School and holds his own private studio. Frank has performed in several pit orchestras and music directed a few shows including some for the Selma Arts Center. With an emphasis on community, Frank founded and currently directs the Community Flute Choir of Fresno and the Unhealthy Sensitive Saxophone Quartet. Frank is looking forward to serving on the council and the Selma community.

Nicolette C. Andersen

Selma Arts Center Coordinator

Nicolette earned her B.A. in Theatre with an emphasis in acting, from CSU, Fresno. has worked for the City of Selma Recreation Department as director of the Youth Performing Arts Program for over ten years. As Coordinator of the Selma Arts Center, Nicolette has been very involved in the development of Selma’s performing arts. She has directed and produced many shows for the Cool Kid Players and directed adult community productions such as South Pacific, Mary Poppins, Steel Magnolias and co-directed Into the Woods.

Mike Kirchner

City Recreation Director

Mike has been head of the Selma Recreation and Community Services Department since 1995. He has administrative responsibility for the Recreation, Senior and Cultural Art development for the City. He coordinates, organizes and promotes recreation and senior programming for all existing and new programs and activities.

Anne Peterson

Box Office

Anne received her BSN in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She started acting in High school and college and helped write two plays while at the university. She continued writing skits for various functions at the hospitals and then became one of the original Raisin’ Cain Players. She has been in numerous plays as well as helping behind the scenes. Presently she volunteers at the Selma Arts Center as needed.
