If you’ve attended a performance of SPRING AWAKENING, you might’ve noticed the special pre-show music playing throughout the house as the audience takes their seats. The custom-curated medley of songs inspired by SPRING AWAKENING ranges from alternative hits of the 90s to the hottest electronic pop hits of today, all of which have been given the “19th century treatment”. Swing and Co-Vocal Director, Jeremy Hitch, is the mastermind behind this impressive assortment of familiar tunes, played live by the orchestra nightly, that speak to the modern vs. period nature of the show.
“As I have become consumed by the world and the words of this piece, I heard the whispers of these songs past and present. Here is the mangled collection of the uncollected mind of all of us – the ill-informed youth. This is where the beauty lies.”
Listen to the playlist that inspired his work here, and arrive to the show early to hear the medley for yourself!
SPRING AWAKENING plays thru Saturday, February 10th at the Selma Arts Center. Tickets available now!
